History
The CHAOS acronym of Children Having Alternative Options for Success started out as the name for a boys basketball program “Team CHAOS” in 2010 in Laurel, Maryland (Prince George’s County). The program later expanded throughout Maryland, DC, and Virginia with as many as nine teams within its’ first two years. Some of the early principles of providing life skills, mentoring, and financial support were just a part of the daily operations. Growing and maintaining relationships with families as they went through the journey of raising athletes, it was established that although it was CHAOS, it was more like family.
One of the main discoveries in managing a team/program is the continued increase in costs/expenditures for the families of student-athletes and how it can hinder the already under-served communities from participating in travel/club sports. The other discovery is the access to resources such as training, academic tutoring, and mental health coaches. CHAOS Foundation was established with these factors in mind. Over a decade of building relationships and serving as advocates in the sports community to date to support hundreds of student-athletes in the community.
